Erlalai Welfare Association
The Erlalai Welfare Association UK was officially inaugurated on the 21st of September 2024 after several years of dedicated effort by socially committed members of the Erlalai community living in the United Kingdom. The association was launched with cultural events representing the traditions of Erlalai, and its executive committee was formally elected on the same occasion.
இங்கிலாந்தில் வாழும் ஏழாலை சமூக ஆர்வலர்களின் பல வருட கடின முயற்சியின் பயனாக, 2024 ஆம் ஆண்டு புரட்டாதி மாதம் 21 ஆம் திகதி ஏழாலை மக்களின் கலை மற்றும் கலாசார நிகழ்வுகளுடன் ஏழாலை நலன்புரிச் சங்கம் அங்குரார்ப்பணம் செய்யப்பட்டது. அதே நிகழ்வில் சங்கத்தின் நிர்வாக சபையும் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டது.
History of Erlalai
Erlalai is one of the largest and most densely populated villages in the Jaffna Peninsula. It is believed that the village received its name “Erlalai” because seven temples (“aalayams”) were located within the same surrounding area. Of these, six temples were situated on the northern bank of the Perunkanni Kulam, while one temple stood on the eastern highland.
ஏழாலை என்பது யாழ்ப்பாணத்தின் வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்புமிக்க, அதிக மக்கள் தொகையைக் கொண்ட பெரிய கிராமங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். “ஏழாலை” என்ற பெயர், ஒரே சுற்றுப்பகுதிக்குள் அமைந்திருந்த ஏழு ஆலயங்களை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு உருவானதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. இந்த ஆலயங்களில் ஆறு ஆலயங்கள் பெருங்கண்ணிக் குளத்தின் வடகரையிலும், ஒன்று கிழக்குப் பகுதியில் உள்ள மேட்டுநிலத்திலும் அமைந்திருந்தன.
